Why The Floating Cap Display?

We spent over 10 years looking at our caps collecting dust...
hanging on a wall at various angles…..at around the 18 month mark we determined the unprotected caps were a secondary air filter source that happened not to be plugged into anything.Back in 2010, we were commissioned by NewEra to display all their pro skaters decks at their West Coast Headquarters. While installation was happening they asked us: “So, when are you going to have something for caps?” Well, 13 years later we finally have an overnight success. Dustproof, UV proof, IR proof, and it takes just seconds to go from “wear” to “display” and back again. Your Cap game just got massively elevated.
As time went by the dust combines with more dust and eventually looks like granola was sprinkled on all the horizontal cap surfaces. At this point we knew that our cap collection needed true physical barrier protection and that a simple holder or pinch mechanism would just turn your favorite caps into air filters. Our pain is now your gain as your caps will look beautiful behind our glass covering aesthetic…and they are protected from dust, UV & IR light waves that cause fading. We already know you love your caps as much as we do simply by the fact you are still reading this description. Now, for both our peace of mind, treat them with the respect and aesthetic they deserve.
Collect
I’ve collected baseball caps my entire life. In 2012, I decided to display some of my favorites on wall space above my closet. They were clipped by their crown’s button to the wall and gradually began their slow journey to destruction (click here to check out our first clip system). First they started to sag. Our busy home is a pro at kicking up dust so the next thing I noticed was the accumulation of particulate on the top of the bill and crown. After a year, the amount of dust/pet hair/etc….made them unwearable….especially the pro wool caps. We all know what happens when a good cap accidentally goes into the washing machine….it’s simply never the same and looks like crap. So, we did something about it and that’s why you are checking us out today.
Preserve
After 13 years of development, our preservation and display system is finally ready to be a long overdue overnight success. We use an automotive lens grade polycarbonate that is the same material used for astronauts to see out of their helmets. We mix in a UV inhibitor which greatly reduces the sun’s fading power. And, we designed and patented a user experience that is easier than stacking them together on your closet’s shelf. So, what are you waiting for?
Display
I love reliving the memories my caps share everytime I look at them: Favorite autographed ones, teams, bars, concerts, National Parks, causes, restaurants, etc… Additionally, I don’t have to hunt through the endless amount of boxes that each hold 20 to find my favorites. If The Pottery Barn had a seal of approval of how a cap should look while on display our Floating Cap Display would be it’s only choice.
We all collect stuff. That’s the easy part. Figuring out how to display our collections as if in an Art Gallery turned out to be a more complicated task. Furthermore, we gotta do it without breaking the piggy bank……
So. We. Did. We are ArtFunction.
Over 15 years ago we created our first Floating Skateboard Display. We had no idea that our learnings would become a platform for next level displays for all sorts of products & collectibles. It is a uniquely fun feeling making us collector folk feel really good when we see our art floating in various living spaces.
